Hyderabad
Nov. 11: The Kadapa MP, Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, on Wednesday for the first time publicly expressed his intention to become Chief Minister.
“Yes, I want to become the Chief Minister and I will definitely become CM one day,” Mr Reddy told women from self-help groups (SHGs) in Kadapa, Mr Reddy was distributing Abhaya Hastam pension cheques to the women.
During the function, Ms Jayamma, president of a SHG, asked Mr Reddy when he would become Chief Minister in order to take forward his father, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy’s welfare schemes. “We wish you will become Chief Minister to protect us,” she said.
Mr Reddy replied to her in an emotional tone: “I am still young, I have a long future. No one can stop me from becoming Chief Minister sooner or later.”
He said the Congress president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, would never do injustice to those who trusted her. “Some day I will sit in the CM’s chair and rule the state for the benefit of the poor,” he said. “If not now, may be after two years, with your support and best wishes, I will become Chief Minister.”
Meanwhile, the question of Mr Reddy campaigning for the GHMC elections still remains open.
The Congress campaign will be inaugurated by the Congress’s AP incharge and Union minister, Mr Veerappa Moily, the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, and the PCC chief, Mr D. Srinivas on Thursday.
The state Congress did not specifically mention the name of Mr Reddy in the campaign, it merely said all MPs and MLAs would participate in the campaign.
The source said unless there was an open invitation by a responsible person from the party, Mr Reddy may not join the campaign. The minister and GHMC Congress president, Mr D. Nagender, said Mr Reddy would be formally invited by AICC leaders.
