Appearing for the claimants to the land, Mr Chandran contended in the Madras High Court that once the order was pronounced it was final and the impleading petitions could not be entertained thereafter.

Human Rights Advocacy and Research Foundation, represented by its director, Mr Ossie Fernandes, and Peoples' Watch executive director, Mr Henri Tiphagne, had filed impleading petitions, opposing the claim to the land. They contended that the claimants of the land were not bonafide and their contention of alleged possession of lands, which were part of "anadeenam" lands in the village, was a "falsehood".
