Kakinada, July 13: The commencement of Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s Odarpu Yatra in East Godavari has been confirmed. The yatra is scheduled to begin at Bucchaiahpeta in Tondangi mandal under Kakinada division on Monday.
Thousands of followers of the late Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and his son and Kadapa member of Parliament Mr Jagan have made all arrangements and are spending huge amounts to make the programme a success.
Police have arranged tight security and intelligence agencies have kept a strict vigil on Jagan’s movements and the activities of political leaders, particularly Congressmen including elected representatives.
According to sources, Mr Jagan will tour nearly 1,100 kilometres, covering nearly 370 villages in 60 mandals of the district to console the 75 identified families, the kin of those who had committed suicide or died of shock, in the aftermath of his father’s tragic death in copter crash in September last year.
Mr Jagan will kickstart the programme by consoling the family of M. Darayya at Bucchaiahpeta on Monday afternoon and will end it by visiting the house of R Radhakrishna at Masjid Centre in Kakinada city.
According to East Godavari Youth Congress president, Mr Varupula Raja, Jagan’s Odarpu Yatra is confirmed to begin on Monday and he will enter the district this night after completing the ongoing programme in Srikakulam district by Sunday evening. Besides consoling the families, Mr Jagan will also inaugurate YSR’s statues at various places during the yatra, he added.
Speaking to this correspondent, the superintendent of police, Mr G. Srinivas said that tight security was pressed into service to prevent untoward incidents, and their department had also given strict instructions to the programme organisers not to conduct any public campaigns or meetings during the yatra
