Nayantara : I like Prabhu Deva in TV interview

Controversy queen Nayantara agreed during a television interview that she likes Prabhu Deva. A popular Tamil satellite channel had an exclusive interview with Nayantara as part of their Deepavali special programmes. When the interviewer asked her why she had a tattoo design on her arm which said 'PDeva', she honestly said that she had the name tattooed because she liked the person, meaning Prabhu Deva. She also told viewers that she received quite a number of love letters right from her school days but never reciprocated to any of them! The 'PDeva' tattoo on her arm has created a lot of controversy and the relationship she shares with Prabhu Deva is already the talk of the town. The tattoo design on her arm has also appeared all over the media, confirming her liking for Prabhu Deva.

Jagan meets Sonia but Rosaiah stays

Uncertainty over the continuance of Mr K. Rosaiah as Chief Minister ended on Thursday with Mr Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the Kadapa MP and son of the late YSR, agreeing to support him.

Mr Reddy met the Congress president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, and told her that he had no plans to split the party and would be loyal to her. He was accompanied by his father’s close friend, Mr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao. In fact, Mrs Gandhi agreed to meet him only after she was told that Mr Reddy had been persuaded to fall in line.
He later told mediapersons that he had full faith in the leadership and would abide by its decision. “Leave the decision to me. I will look after,” he quoted Mrs Gandhi as having told him.
The young leader has reportedly decided to bide his time till the party president decides in his favour. “Everything will be normal in the party and we will support Mr Rosaiah as he is the nominee of the party high command,” said a source in the Jagan camp.
Mr Reddy will make this amply evident by calling on the Chief Minister and extending his full cooperation. Sources said that Mr Ramachandra Rao would be meeting party leaders in Delhi to finalise the dates of Congress Legislature Party meeting that would formally elect Mr Rosaiah as leader. Mr Rao may also continue in his post as adviser to the Chief Minister.
Mr Reddy spent close to 50 minutes with Mrs Gandhi and her political secretary, Mr Ahmed Patel, and conveyed his impressions on the political scenario in the state.
He also made it evident to the party chief that he wanted to focus on state politics in order to protect the interests of people of Pulivendula as well as the “die hard loyalists” of his late father.
Mr Reddy also spoke about the by-elections to Pulivendula Assembly segment represented by late YSR which might be held in early December.
Mrs Gandhi assured him that she will look into the matter later. He was cautious while talking to mediapersons and dismissed reports that MLAs were campaigning to make him Chief Minister, terming them as mere speculation.
The Jagan camp has put on a brave face and is trying to make best use of the situation.
“Some loyalists of Mr Rosaiah have been trying to dictate terms,” said a Jagan camp follower. “The scene will change from tomorrow when we till take over the reins of power by owning Mr Rosaiah.”
The Chief Minister is also flying to Delhi by month end to meet Mrs Gandhi to apprise her about the political developments and to get a green signal for reshuffle of his ministry.

Black day for Democaracy in India: Congress pulls off Maha hattrick

The Congress won a third consecutive term in Maharashtra, swept Arunachal Pradesh with a two-thirds majority but fell short of six seats for a simple majority in Haryana.by default . becoz there is no choice for the voters to choose between none.

in democartic state like India. there is need for strong Opposition to be watch dog of the Government. infact BJP is lost its credibility as Opposition both at the centre and the states..

it is verymuch unfortunate for the affairs of the Existence of the Democaracy

The Assembly elections were crucial as this was the first major popularity test for both the Congress-led UPA and the BJP-led NDA after the 2009 Lok Sabha polls five months earlier.
The race for the chief ministership began instantly after the Congress-NCP victory in Maharashtra. The Congress will create history if it manages to form a government in Haryana for a second consecutive term. In the last three decades the state has never returned any ruling outfit to power. Though it emerged the single largest party in the fractured verdict in Haryana, it was short of a simple majority by six seats.
Of the 288 Assembly berths in Maharashtra, the Congress-NCP combine won 144 seats (four more than in the last Assembly), needing one more for a simple majority. On its own the Congress won 82 seats (69 in the last Assembly election). The Sharad Pawar-NCP was victorious in 62 seats (71 in the last Assembly election). Congress candidate Rajendra Shekhawat, the son of President Pratibha Patil, won from Amravati, defeating Congress rebel Sunil Deshmukh by 5,614 votes.
The BJP-Shiv Sena alliance was confined to only 90 Assembly berths, far behind its 2004 tally of 116. Mr Raj Thackeray led his Maharashtra Navnirman Sena to victory in a dozen seats, tripping up the saffron combination. The BJP alone won 46 seats and Shiv Sena 44. Former Speaker and Shiv Sena leader Mr Manohar Joshi said on record that the BJP-Sena loss was “due to the MNS cutting into our vote banks.”
Of the 90 Assembly berths in Haryana, the Congress managed 40 seats, 27 less than in the 2005 Assembly polls.
The Om Prakash Chautala-led INLD with 31 seats in its kitty (nine in 2005) demanded that the governor first give the Opposition parties an opportunity to form the government. The Congress will take stock of the Haryana outcome and state chief minister, Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, would be meeting the top leadership, including party president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi.
Sources disclosed that parleys are on to rope in the Independents to form a majority in the Assembly. Of the seven Independents, four were Congress rebels. The INLD, which was routed in the last Assembly polls, made an impressive comeback. It had won only nine seats in 2005; this time it won 31.
The election results virtually bring down the curtain on the top saffron leadership, particularly Mr L.K. Advani, who, despite stiff opposition from within his party, campaigned in both Maharashtra and Haryana.
The frustration and low morale in the BJP were clear when senior BJP leader, Mr Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, declared: “Electronic voting machines have turned into electronic victory machines for the Congress.

KCR may face action for war speech

Legal experts have said the Telangana Rashtra Samithi president, Mr K. Chandrasekhar Rao, can be booked for his unsavoury utterances against people from coastal Andhra at a public meeting at Siddipet on Thrusday.
Mr Rao’s slogan, “Telangana walo Jago, Andhra wale bhago,” is likely to attract penal provisions for hurting the sentiments of a section of people and causing social discord, besides fanning regional chauvinism.
According to legal experts, Mr Rao can be booked under Sections 153, 153 (A), 508 and 120 (B) of the Indian Penal Code.
As per Section 153 (A), a case can be registered for promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc. and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony.
Those who commit such acts can be slapped with imprisonment for three years, or with fine, or both.
“KCR’s speech falls under the provision and he can be booked under the section straight away,” said Mr P. Subhash, an advocate of the High Court.
Mr M. Rajinder Reddy, former public prosecutor and Bar Council of India member, said Mr Rao was right to address the Telangana people but he should refrain from asking other citizens of the country to run away from Hyderabad or Telangana.
He said the provocative speech could attract action under IPC Section 153 which deals with provocation with intent to cause riot.
Similarly, Mr C. Damodar Reddy, senior advocate, said that KCR should not have gone to such an extent in his speech and said the TRS leader’s utterances fell under Section 508 of the IPC. Another senior criminal lawyer on condition of anonymity said that the government could suo motu initiate criminal proceedings against Mr Rao. “The government need not wait for a complaint or reaction from the public,” he said. “Even a local police officer can initiate action.”

I wish KCR goes to jail for at least 5 yrs and that would set an example for others not give provocative speaches. There should be one such high profile judgment for common man to believe in justice for all.

There are enough and more provisions in the statutes as well as guaranteed rights spelt out clearly in our Constitution and in the very Preamble and Article 19 in particular.
When not quite potent and effective, governments are installed by the electorate one need to suffer the ignomony and brazen flouting of the guarantees of life, liberty and pursuit of happines that are fundamentals to all of us.
All these are on paper as the government appears illiterate and ineffective to implement the provisions that exist and which were the result of several hours of painstaking efforts by our Founding Fathers in the Constituent Assembly. Our founding fathers must be suffering in their graves at the helplessness of present rulers to tether and contain the unsocial elements in our land. Some of them burnt taxis in Mumbai as they belonged to non-Mumbaites. Some others want to make refugees of the refugees that came out of the erstwhile Madras Presidency! These anti-social elements are happily enjoying the fruits of labour of the Independance struggle and spreading the canker of separatism and fomenting hatred towards other citizens destroing the very foundation of our Nation. You need to rejuvinate adn wake up the government and strengthen the arms of law from the stupor they appear to be in.

Couple booked for torturing Dalit girl

Lucknow: A woman was arrested on Wednesday and a search was on for her husband after they allegedly held a six-year-old Dalit girl hostage for the past six months and tortured her, police said.
The matter came to light Sunday when police raided their home on a complaint by the girl's mother and rescued her.
"We were shocked to see the condition of the girl who had injuries and bruises all over her body. She could hardly walk," Paresh Pandey, superintendent of police (Trans Gomti), told reporters.
The husband, Rajiv Verma, a music teacher in a private school, was arrested the same day (Sunday) and sent to jail. However, he was out on bail now and police Wednesday secured an arrest warrant against him.
His wife Rekha was arrested on Wednesday.
The couple had taken the girl, identified as Shivdevi, from her parents, promising to arrange for her education.
"However, they engaged her in taking care of their infant child and when she failed to do this, they started torturing Shivdevi," inspector Vinay Gautam of Gomti Nagar police station told IANS.
They did not allow Shivdevi to meet her parents during the past six months.
"While her father Maujilal is a rickshaw puller, her mother is a labourer," Gautam added.
According to police, the child told them that "when I could not do (baby-sitting), they started beating me and even gave me electric shocks".
She said they even put a heated pressure cooker on her head resulting in deap bruises and hair loss.
"The girl was not even fed properly and is suffering from malnutrition. She has serious injuries on her head, legs, knees, hands and face," Pandey added.

Maya under fire for slapping Dalit Act on TV scribes

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Ms Mayawati, has come under fire from media persons and the opposition for slapping the Dalit Act on reporters of a national TV channel for a news report on how a starving Dalit sold off his wife in the poverty-hit Bundelkhand region of the state.
The Uttar Pradesh Accredited Press Correspondents Committee has vehemently condemned the government's move to haul the a news channel and its scribes over the stringent provisions of the Dalit Act.
The Samajwadi Party president and former chief minister, Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav, termed the move as draconian and anti-democratic.
"What the news channel reported was harsh reality and the media must have the freedom to show the truth in a democracy," said Mr Mulayam Singh.
He added, "But through her vindictive action, she has proved that she does not believe in democratic values at all and instead her intent was to intimidate the media so that it remains under her thumb."
Mr Mulayam Singh said: "I challenge her to take action against me as I still maintain that the Dalit woman was sold away so that her family could get four square meals."
He also flayed the state Women's Commission for "manipulating facts in its bid to disprove the report".
The Women's Commission that took the lead in contradicting the TV expose is headed by the sister of Mayawati's blue-eyed lieutenant Satish Chandra Misra, the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP)'s Brahmin mascot.

Dalit family in MP ostracised

Bhopal: More than three weeks have passed since a Dalit family was ostracised and forced to leave their village in Madhya Pradesh's Betul district. But, according to media reports, the police and the administration have failed to either rehabilitate them or to take action against anyone.
Bhupati Das's family, including his wife and four children, were ostracised after they were charged with practising black magic Aug 22. Das was away from home at the time.
Media reports have said that upper caste villagers thronged Das's house and started abusing his wife. The mob alleged that Das was a sorcerer and that he had used black magic to stop the rain.
Holding Das responsible for the drought conditions in the area, the villagers razed his house and destroyed his belongings. His wife, three daughters and son were forced to leave the village immediately.
When Das reached his home after lodging a complaint with the police, he found that the villagers had cleaned the debris and placed stones, smeared with vermillion, all around.
On hearing that his children's life was in danger if he stayed in the village, Das took shelter at his friend's home in Chichanda village, 40 km away.
Das also complained about the incident to Superintendent of Police R.L. Prajapati Aug 29, but no action has been taken so far.
Prajapati said he was not aware of the incident. "I will look into it," he told IANS.
This is not an isolated case of atrocity on Dalits.
According to statistics from February 2008 to 2009 compiled by the police headquarters (PHQ), there have been 40,250 registered cases of atrocities against Dalits.
While Chhatarpur district tops the list with 215 registered cases of atrocities against Dalits, Morena was second with 197 registered cases and Sagar third with 194 cases.
Even Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan's hometown and his parliamentary constituency Vidisha has not been spared. Here 129 cases have been recorded.
In Betul district, where Das's village is located, the number of registered cases stood at 129.
"The actual cases could be double, or even more, as in most of the cases the poor and the downtrodden are not able to muster the courage to report the matter to the police, and again, on so many occasions even the police are found to be unwilling to register cases against upper caste people," a senior police official confessed on condition of anonymity.

Marry into a healthy family

If you want a happily ever after ending to your love story ensure that a thorough health check is conducted not just on Mr/Miss Right, but their entire family too. Two new studies have suggested that choosing relatives carefully is one way of protecting your heart from being broken. According to one study it was reported if an identical twin suffered from melanoma, this increased the risk of the other twin developing the skin cancer at a later stage. Yes, if your partner’s blood relation is suffering from a disease that can be hereditary, your husband/wife or child too could get it at a later stage in life. This holds true to many ailments like heart problem, various kinds of cancer, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy and more. Character traits, finances and others habits can be changed and corrected, but not some deadly genes.
After 15 years of marriage it would be terrible to be told that your spouse or child is suffering from a hereditary disease that he/she inherited from a grandparent. Sometimes, even a parent who is healthy can be a carrier.
It might sound selfish but for long term happiness it’s worth checking out the family’s medical history. You don’t want things like a history of mental issues to be brought to your knowledge only after you discover your sister-in-law behaving a bit crazy. These genes haunt generations and your child could be vulnerable to them.
Things like baldness can be ignored unless you are an extremely vain creature, but be attentive to other serious issues. When conducting a health check look out for things like whether the disease is recessive or dominant. Dr K. Thangaraj, senior scientist and geneticist, Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, Hyderabad says
“The chances are 50 per cent if the genes causing the disease are dominant. If recessive they are 25 per cent.”
And with certain genes, grandkids are the ones who suffer them.
Also keep an eye out for unhealthy relatives as Dr K. Thangaraj says, “Since Y chromosome is inherited by males, all the male members in the lineage inherit it. In case of maternal lineage, the mitochondrial RNA is
inherited.”
The road to true love is never said to be smooth, but it can surely be a healthy one. While discussing each other’s wants, needs and fears do ensure that you and your partner-to-be discuss each other’s medical history too. If you have any doubts or your partner needs to sort out some issues Dr MN Khaja, senior geneticist, Centre for Liver Research and Diagnostics, Hyderabad recommends genetic counselling. He feels this must be encouraged before marriage. This way both parties will get into the relationship with their eyes wide open and can monitor kids and get them tested from when they are born for certain symptoms. Ignoring or working around a loved one’s flaws is no big deal, but overlooking their rouge gene could be deadly in the long run.

Five-year-old tortured by father in Chennai

A malnourished five-year-old boy in Chennai was allegedly abused by his father. He was confined in a kitchen and regularly beaten because his father, who worked as a lawyer's clerk, allegedly could not stand his son's resemblance to his estranged wife.

Police rescued him after a neighbour called a child rescue helpline.

"There's nothing but just skeleton inside his body. He's not even able to stand on his own," said C Sridevi, coordinator, Childline.

The father and two aunts who stayed in the same house have been arrested and charged with cruelty and attempt to murder.

"Preliminary enquiry reveals that he has harassed him both physically and emotionally," said Kannabiran, AC, T Nagar.

While it's the physical torture that has exposed this case, activists say the more common mental torture by many parents seldom gets reported.

Trains collide near Mathura; 13 dead

Thirteen people have been killed as the Goa Express rammed a stationary Mewar Express near Mathura on Wednesday morning. 22 passengers have been injured. Three critically injured passengers have been shifted to Delhi.

The accident took place at around 4 a.m. between Mathura and Vrindavan stations. The impact caused two coaches to jump the tracks. One of them was badly damaged.

About 40 to 50 people were trapped inside the crushed, unreserved bogey of the Mewar Express. Gas cutters were used to cut through the damaged bogey. The rescue operation is now over and all the trapped passengers have been pulled out. The Mewar Express has now reached Delhi.

Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has ordered a high-level inquiry into the accident.
Railway officials say the driver of the Goa Express was either over-speeding or may have jumped the signal and hit the Mewar Express from behind.

Compensation of Rs 5 lakh has been announced for families of the dead; Rs 1 lakh to seriously injured and Rs 10,000 to those with minor injuries.

The Army was brought in for rescue operations. Medical teams were also dispatched to the mishap site.

Senior police and district official reached the spot. Helplines have been set up in all major neighbouring cities.

Northern Railway has cancelled the Agra Nizamuddin inter-city express and diverted a few other trains which included the Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express for Mumbai, Andhra Pradesh Express and Karnataka Express. They are being diverted via Tundla.

Rahul Gandhi's new campaign ground, colleges

In the recent assembly elections, political parties were seen wooing their 'new' vote bank like never before. L K Advani spoke to youngsters in a gym, and now we have Rahul Gandhi - considered a youth icon - reaching out in college campuses.

Within two weeks of his much publicised visited to the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in Delhi, Rahul's already visited more campuses in Himachal, Kerala and Jharkhand. All this is part of his direct contact programme with the youth, where he is part politician and part motivational speaker talking about larger issues affecting the country - politics, austerity, Pakistan or Naxalism. And not all of it is in tune with his party's politics.

"He remembered our demands, he has promised to look into our complaints," says Manish Tiwari a student at the Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad.

Congress MP and former Youth Congress member Manick Tagore adds," For the first time in politics, someone is speaking the truth, so that's why young people are liking that."

Congress insiders say that during Rahul's visit to Tamil Nadu last month, the Youth Congress got 1.3 million new membership applications. The Kerala congress has also made similar claims, despite mockery from the ruling Left.

It's not a new strategy though. As recently as the general election earlier this year, the BJP was seen wooing JNU students.

"It has nothing to do with Rahul Gandhi, we have been doing it for such a long time," Vani Tripathi from BJP's youth wing. "We are doing things to increase cadre base but Rahul's attempts are just photo-ops," adds senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley.

But Rahul Gandhi's aides say the youth contact programme is for the long run.

Saffron terror: Myth or reality?

The term Hindu Terror was born in September 2008, in the wake of the Malegaon blast, which left five people dead. Hemant Karkare - who would later become a 26/11 hero - the head of the Anti-Terrorism Squad in Maharashtra, said there were extreme elements within the Hindu community.

"The car that was used in the Malegaon blasts was registered in the name of Pragnya Singh. There were many attempts to destroy evidence in this car and hide ownership", Karkare said after the Malegaon blasts.

And suddenly, a young woman in saffron robes, with short cropped hair, called Sadhvi Pragya, became a new and unexpected face of terrorism. Along with her, a serving army officer, Lt Col Prasad Purohit and a shadowy group called Abhinav Bharat, were also implicated.

It was a debate that tore the political establishment down the middle. Not just the saffron BJP, but the Congress too has resisted action against several right wing Hindu groups.

Take the present controversy in Goa. A scooter used to trigger the blast on October 16, was linked to the Sanatan Sasntha, a Goa-based right wing Hindu group. Among its followers is the Goa Transport Minister Sudheen Dhavlikar's wife

In 2008, the Karkare's ATS had recommended that theSanatan Sanstha be banned, after its activists were arrested for their involvement in blasts in Vashi, Thane and Panvel. The police have also accused the Sanstha of instigating communal violence in Sangli and Miraj in Maharashtra.

But the state government has refused to act on the proposal.

The Sanstha on its part says it has nothing to do with violence. Abhay Vartak, spokesperson of the Sanatan Sanstha said: "We are educated people. We have been working for the last 10 to 15 years for our religion."

The police say extremist Hindu groups are spreading in influence all along from Goa to Malegaon. And, they say, whatever term you use for them, they have to be treated as a serious security threat.

Reliance, the divided empire

2002: Reliance founder Dhirubhai Ambani dies
2004: Feud between brothers becomes public
2005: Reliance empire officially split into two
Mukesh's share: Petrochemicals, Oil & Gas
Anil's share: Power, Telecom, Fin Services, Entertainment

Ambanis: Politics, drama, no happy ending?

It's the sort of family feud that, in the 80s, gifted Bollywood an entire sub-genre.

Only this one hit the national real-life box office in 2002, when the Patriach of India's most powerful business family died. What had been whispers of rivalry were suddenly deafening, shouted loudest and most often by the two heirs themselves. Anil and Mukesh Ambani were at war.

And in June 2005, the split was formal, with a demerger designed with the help of their mother, Kokilaben.

Mukesh got control of the flagship firm that held the petrochemicals and oil and gas businesses. Anil got Telecom, Power, Financial Services and Entertainment. But the settlement didn't end the bitterness.

The current battle is over gas that Mukesh's RIL extracts from the Krishna-Godavari Basin block off the coast of Andhra Pradesh. When Reliance originally struck gas here seven years ago, it was among the world's biggest gas finds, and Reliance was one big happy family.

After Dhirubhai Ambani's death, and the split wide open, the gas dispute rose to gigantic proportions. Under the demerger pact, Mukesh had agreed to supply a part of gas from this Krishna-Godavari basin field to Anil, for his Dadri power plant - at a price of 2.34 dollars per unit. But the government later approved a formula that valued the gas at a 44% higher price of 4.2 dollars. Mukesh wanted the higher price, unacceptable to Anil.

In a series of front-page newspaper advertisements, Anil slammed his brother and the government. Anil accused Mukesh's Reliance of inflating the costs of the project, of keeping the output artificially low, and of charging a high price to make super-normal profits. Both brothers took to hectic lobbying among politicians.

And so from boardrooms and courts, the battle spilled into Parliament. Petroleum Minister Murli Deora said, "We are not interested in the dispute between Ambani brothers, but we are interested in the gas that is a national asset."

But should Parliament be mediating a corporate battle at all? Interestingly, Anil Ambani, who first accused the government of batting for Mukesh, has quoted the Prime Minister in his attempt at reconciliation.

On Sunday, in a public note in which he speaks of his "love and affection" for his brother, Anil says, "The Prime Minister had wished that two brothers come together in national interest." Mukesh, rejecting that olive branch, has retaliated that this is a business battle, not a personal one.

With a combined net worth of over 31 billion dollars, the Ambani brothers have become a headache for the government. If it intervenes, it's accused of political bias. If it doesn't, the very public battle continues: one that many say is damaging India Inc's interests and image, both at home and abroad.

Anil says he loves Mukesh, wants peace

Following is the text of the statement issued by industrialist Anil Ambani seeking reconciliation with his elder brother Mukesh:

"In June 2005, with the blessings and approval of my respected mother Kokilaben Ambani, and in line with the vision and value creation philosophy of our beloved founder Chairman, Dhirubhai Ambani, we announced the restructuring of the Reliance Group.

I had sincerely believed then, that we had resolved all issues, and come to an amicable settlement that would create two of India's most dynamic business groups, bring peace and harmony to our family, and generate substantial wealth for millions of shareholders of the Reliance family.

Over the past 4 years, some parts of that promise have been realised. Unfortunately, the joy of that achievement has been tempered by the sorrow, pain and anguish of continuing disagreement and acrimony with my elder brother, Mukeshbhai.

Over these past 4 years, I have persevered with utmost sincerity, humility and good faith, and left no stone unturned to try and resolve our differences. To my lasting regret, despite all my well-meaning efforts, I have failed - pushing us even to the extreme step of recourse to litigation to protect the interests of over 11 million shareholders of our Group.

Over the past few weeks, many elder statesmen, trusted family members, and long-standing friends of my father, Dhirubhai Ambani, who have always had the best interests of the nation and the Ambani family at heart, have talked of the need to break the current impasse, and to find a solution that puts an end to this bitterness and rancor; and paves the way for substantial future growth and value creation for the country and millions of our shareholders. I agree with each one of them.

This has been a time of deep sadness and pain for me personally. Yet, throughout this very trying period, I have maintained the greatest of love, affection and respect for Mukeshbhai - as I have done since my birth.

In that spirit, I have made this pilgrimage today to the holy shrines of Kedarnath and Badrinath, in the hope of seeking divine inspiration and blessings, in trying to heal the wounds, and in making a renewed effort to resolve, reconcile and reciprocate.

I sincerely believe that Mukeshbhai and I can, even at this late stage, sort out all our disagreements, in a constructive, cordial and conciliatory manner, if we both commit to getting this done.

The issues are only a handful, and the facts are well known. My judgement says that they can all be resolved in a matter of weeks, and will not require several months of discussions.

Accordingly, with the blessings of my mother, and invoking the power of Lord Shiva from this most sacred of holy places, I am once again reaching out to Mukeshbhai - and hope and pray that my feelings will be reciprocated, and we will arrive at a solution to all outstanding issues, with a generous heart, a willing mind, and an accommodating spirit.

There can be no better gift to my mother, Kokilaben Ambani in her 75th year, and to the legacy of our beloved father, Dhirubhai Ambani, the proud creator of the Reliance Group."

Mukesh rejects Anil's olive branch

Anil Ambani's conduct so far makes it difficult for Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) to believe that he has had a real change of heart.

Mukesh Ambani's company issued a statement to this effect on Sunday, in response to what is being called Anil's olive branch to his elder brother. In a surprise move hours before, Anil had reached out to his estranged brother saying all disagreements can be sorted out in a cordial and conciliatory manner.

But RIL's response said that "issues in the dispute can only be decisively resolved by a decision of the highest court."

It added, "The dispute under litigation is not merely a family matter, as Anil Ambani's statement tries to make out to be. Vital national interests, including government's revenue from the natural gas, are at stake."

Anil had called for renewed efforts to end all disputes with brother Mukesh, on his return from a pilgrimage to Kedarnath and Badrinath on the eve of Diwali.

But RIL's statement claims that just 24 hours before seeking peace, Anil's company filed an affidavit in court accusing Mukesh of criminal breach of trust. "For last many years, Anil Ambani has indulged in a malicious campaign against RIL and its chairman," the RIL response said.

The two brothers are engaged in a bitter court battle over allocation of gas and the Supreme Court will commence hearing of the case from October 20.

It may be recalled that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had earlier wished that the two brothers come together in the larger national interest and similar sentiments were echoed by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and other senior government functionaries.

Is Rahul Gandhi a true youth icon?

1.Where political ideology concern, he is definitely successful among all other Indian politicians, As long he maintains this his image will grow up. We need transparency in system, Devotion for our country, and boldness to face challenges and removing corruption. If Mr. Rahul Gandhi can show all these in coming days then, that day will be not so far, we will see him as PM of India.

2.No way. As somee one said remove Gandhi sir name and he is no one. He is a product of psycophancy in this country. He has done nothing for this country .Just fooling the poor, uneducated people of this country.

3.I& my family see a lot of promise. He's modest,he's secular,he's development oriented for brighter India and not instigating people to go back to the mytholocial times like BJP!We need to give him a chance! He and his family have a dignified approach to everything.I see him leading a younger generation to change ages of malpractice in our governance.

Gas row: Supreme Court to hear Ambanis' case

The Supreme Court will begin the hearing on the gas row between the estranged industrialist brothers -- Mukesh and Anil Ambani on Tuesday.

The case between Reliance Industries, headed by Mukesh, and Reliance Natural Resources Ltd, led by Anil, is over a deal to sell gas to RNRL at below-market rates as per a family settlement.

Anil wants the demerger agreement between the brothers honored that allows him a share of the gas at a price that is 44% lower than what the government has set. The Supreme Court will begin the hearing on the gas row between the estranged industrialist brothers -- Mukesh and Anil Ambani on Tuesday.

Obama's peace Nobel: Shocking, stunning, bold

Washington, Oct 9 (IANS) The 'stunning surprise' of US President Barack Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize 2009, was greeted at home with expressions of disbelief to praise for a 'bold choice'.
'The stunning surprise announcement coming extraordinarily early in Mr. Obama's presidency - less than nine months after he took office as the first African American president - shocked people from Norway to Washington,' said The New York Times.
The White House had no idea it was coming.
'There has been no discussion, nothing at all,' said Rahm Emanuel, the president's chief of staff, in a brief telephone interview to NYT.
There was no official comment from the White House. However, a senior administration official told the newspaper in an e-mail message that Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called the White House shortly before 6 a.m. and woke up the president with the news.
'The president was humbled to be selected by the committee,' the official said, without adding anything further.
Leading US business magazine Forbes called Obama's selection as 'Nobel's Bold Choice'.
'He may be mired in controversial debates on health care and foreign policy back at home, but US President Barack Obama has just been given the mother of all votes of confidence in Norway: the annual Nobel Peace Prize,' it said.
'The choice was a shocker to international observers...and one that has already stirred up some bouts of cynicism,' it said.
'We're all sitting round here shocked,' Forbes quoted Robin Shepherd, director of international affairs at the Henry Jackson Society as saying.
Shepherd believes that the choice represents 'infantilism' on the part of the Nobel Committee, and 'soft-bellied adoration of an untested president'.
The Washington Post said in awarding the coveted prize to Obama, the 'Nobel Committee echoed a global embrace of the US president that has seen his popularity overseas often exceed his support at home'.

Maoist leader admits to beheading of Jharkhand police inspector

Kolkata, Oct 9(ANI): Maoist leader Kishenji, also known as Koteshwar Rao, has reportedly admitted to the beheading of Jharkhand Special Branch police inspector Francis Induwar, but has avoided tendering apology for the act.
On September 30, Maoists had kidnapped Induwar from Jharkhand's Khunti district and later on October 6 his decapitated body was found on the Jamshedpur-Ranchi Highway.
Over the issue, where Union Home Minister P Chidambaram described the beheading as a cold-blooded murder, Kisheji said that they don't behead everyone and they will only behead their real enemies. He also said that there is a huge difference between the Maoists and the Taliban, a Times Now report said on Friday evening.
Kishenji further said that the Maoists are ready for conditional talks with the West Bengal Government.
It is believed that the Maoists wanted the release of their two leaders Kobad Ghandy and Chatrodhar Mahato, arrested by law enforcement authorities in New Delhi and West Bengal respectively earlier in September.
It was also reported that a note had been found with Induwar's body, which warned the Government that they could expect more of the same treatment if their demands were not acceded to. (ANI

Nobel Peace Prize Obama makes history again

Washington, Oct 9 (IANS) Just nine months after making history as America's first black President, Barack Obama Friday won the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize 'for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.' A beaming Obama said he was honoured, but wasn't sure he had done enough to earn it.
The Nobel Committee's stunning announcement in Oslo took the people from New Delhi to Norway to the White House itself by surprise. The president was woken up with the news by his Press Secretary Robert Gibbs shortly before 6 a.m.
Hours later appearing in the Rose Garden Friday, Obama said he was 'both surprised and deeply humbled' to win the award.
He said he does not 'view it as a recognition of my own accomplishments', but rather as a recognition of goals he has set for the United States and the world.
Obama said, 'I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many transformative figures that have been honoured by this prize.'
The award cited in particular Obama's effort to reduce the world's nuclear arsenal. 'He has created a new international climate,' the committee said.
The decision appeared to catch most observers by surprise. The president had not been mentioned as among front-runners for the prize, and the roomful of reporters gasped when Thorbjorn Jagland, chairman of the Nobel committee, uttered Obama's name, a CNN report from Oslo said The Nobel committee recognized Obama's efforts to solve complex global problems including working toward a world free of nuclear weapons.
'Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future,' the committee said. Jagland said the decision was 'unanimous' and came with ease.
He rejected the notion that Obama had been recognized prematurely for his efforts and said the committee wanted to promote the president just it had Mikhail Gorbachev in 1990 in his efforts to open up the Soviet Union.
'His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population,' it said.
From New Delhi Prime Minister Manmohan Singh conveyed his 'heartiest congratulations' to Obama praising his 'inclusive approach to problem solving and primacy to dialogue as an instrument of policy' and said he looked forward to working with the US president 'to advance the goals of a more secure, equitable and just world.'
Obama's recognition comes less than a year after he became the first African-American to win the White House. He is the fourth US president to win the prestigious prize and the third sitting president to do so.
At the United Nations, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon praised the award saying the United States leader's commitment to work through the United Nations 'gives the world's people fresh hope and fresh prospects.'
The head of the UN nuclear watchdog agency said he could not think of anyone more deserving of the honour.
'In less than a year in office, he has transformed the way we look at ourselves and the world we live in and rekindled hope for a world at peace with itself,' International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Mohamed ElBaradei said in a statement.

Impact of global recession to be felt in 2000-11, says Montek

New Delhi: The Planning Commission on Friday said the impact of the global meltdown will be felt also in the next fiscal and it would not be possible to achieve the average growth target of 9 per cent in the Eleventh Plan.
"The global slowdown is not still over. This slowdown, which has affected 2008-09 and affect 2009-10, will also affect 2010-11", the Commission's Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia said, addressing the annual meet of industry chamber Assocham.
The global financial meltdown has pulled down India's economic growth to 6.7 per cent during 2008-09 from about 9 per cent a year ago. During the current fiscal, as per the Planning Commission estimates, growth rate may fall to 6.3 per cent.
As regards the Eleventh Plan, Ahluwalia said, "it is not going to be an average of nine per cent. To achieve nine per cent, we will have to grow at 11 per cent for next two fiscal which is not possible. "We will have a clear idea about growth during 11th plan after the mid-term appraisal which is going on", he added.

UP students forced to clean urinals

ucknow: The principal of a government-run school in Uttar Pradesh forced Class 5 students to clean urinals and mop the floors as punishment for not attending their classes regularly, an official said on Friday, adding that the administration had ordered a probe.
The incident happened Thursday at the Behramgarh primary school in Kandhla town of Muzaffarnagar district, about 350 km from Lucknow.
"We have learnt that the principal along with two others teachers is mainly responsible for the incident," said Ravi Dutt, official in-charge of primary education in Muzaffarnagar.
"The issue is quite serious and reflects the cruel mentality of the school staff. Taking into account the seriousness of the issue, I have ordered an enquiry into the matter," he said.
"Stern action would be taken against the staff who can either be suspended or even terminated for their cruel behaviour," Dutt added.
According to officials, the parents of nearly 12 students on Friday submitted a written complaint against the school principal and teachers.
In their complaint, the parents alleged that the principal and teachers also threatened the students of dire consequences if they told anybody about what had happened.

BARACK OBAMA WINS NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

http://ibnlive.in.com/news/barack-obama-wins-nobel-peace-prize/102966-2.html?from=tn
Oslo: US President Barack Obama on Friday won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize for "his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples," the Norwegian Nobel Committee said.
"Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future," the committee said. "His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population."

Obama's name had been mentioned in speculation before the award but many Nobel watchers believed it was too early to award the president.
The committee said it attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.
"Obama has as president created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play."

Actress Bhuvaneswari held for Brothel

Actress Bhuvaneswari is arrested once again for running illegal brothel which had many models from various states. A sting operation was executed by Anti Vice squad of Chennai Police in this case. It is said that the police squad sent a police in mufti to deal with Bhuvaneswari on the basis of secret information received. The police in mufti handed the money to Bhuvaneswari after making the deal.
He was then taken to a room of the house in Adayar, where two modeling girls from Mumbai were confined. The Mufti Police then alerted the squad and they seized the house and arrested Bhuvaneswari for running a brothel under the sections 3, 4 and 5. Section 3, 4 and 5 are booked for Prohibition of Immoral trafficking Act of TamilNadu.
The confined girls were presented before the magistrate and sent to the government rehabilation home in Mylapore. Bhuvaneswari has acted in many Tamil and Telugu films and also in many serials. She was already arrested in 2002 for prostitution and released after some time, proving that she was not guilty but this time she will be finding it difficult to prove innocent unlike the last time.

Bhuvaneswari Scandal, Top actresses indulged in prostitution, Film Industry complaints against her

Actress Bhuvaneshwari who was caught by the police said that she is ready to reveal the name of famous actresses of South Indian cinema who are indulged in prostitution. She justifies her immoral act of prostitution by saying “I have a son studying in ninth standard & I entertain only those customers who are interested in me. Since I deal with small customers I get caught often. But a top bulky actress charges Rs.1lakh for an hour. Since they work with high-class customers, it is difficult to catch her”. According to a daily news paper it is said that Bhuvaneshwari mentioned the names of Namitha, Nalini, Shakeela, Manjula, Seetha, Sri Priya and Anju and their for the flesh trade. She also mentioned the charge per hour for each actress and she charged 30,000 per hour while top actresses charge 1 lakh and they have sex with customers while travelling in flights so that it’s impossible for a police raid. Based on her reports, a special team has been set up to investigate the immoral act of actresses.

These outrageous statements of Bhuvaneshwari in newspapers shook the film industry and they have consulted the police commissioner to take actions against her statement.
Reporters said that Bhuvaneswari has decided to write autobiography which will have many secrets about many actors and actresses.  For more details and pictures of Bhuvaneshwari

Maoists criminals, nobody’s saviours

Those who take heart from democracy and the rule of law as a cardinal principle of civilised rule and the basis of statehood, no matter how imperfect their practice in our country, will honour a brave Jharkhand woman, Sunita, who would be widowed within days of enunciating a sentiment that would do high officials of a modern democracy proud. The wife of police inspector Francis Induwar, who was captured by CPI (Maoist) activists in the forests not far from the highway that links the two major industrial centres of Ranchi and Jamshedpur on September 30, courageously told the media that seeking the release of her husband in exchange for arrested Naxalite leaders ought not to be effected as a way to extricate him from Maoist captivity as he was an official of a legitimate government and believed in doing his duty honestly. An assertion so stirring, by one so intimately related to a captive held by elements who decry our Constitution and political structure, has not been heard before. Indeed, the Indian state is known to have capitulated more than once to demands of terrorists on prisoner swaps. Inspector Induwar was beheaded by his captors without warning earlier this week. He wasn’t the first policeman to die in the line of duty, but his Talibanesque killing can be said to be easily the most gruesome of all the cold-blooded murders committed by those claiming to be revolutionists. The credo of violence that comes naturally to the Maoists has not advanced the cause of the poor and the landless one inch in the past half-century that the Naxalites have been around. It is reasoned debate in the legislatures that has influenced policy. As for the Maoists, their violence without limit against innocent people — recently they shot an eight-year-old child through the head — has earned them rebuke even from the writer Mahasweta Devi, who is known to stand up against violence by the state. Like the Taliban they appear to follow in some ways, the Naxalites appear to be laying siege to ungoverned spaces, especially in forested territories, through the use of intimidation tactics against local residents, who are usually poor tribal people. The aura and the myth sometimes built up about Naxalism and the Naxalites — presenting them as preservers of land rights of the unprotected — appears more than a little overblown. A long time ago there was among the intellectual elite some romanticising of this. This has dissipated long since. News reports suggesting that a leading Naxal operative recently captured by the West Bengal police is the master of insurance policies worth around Rs 1 crore can only undermine any positive image the putative followers of Mao may have once had. Other than mindless violence directed against low-level state functionaries and innocent rural and forest people who like to keep their own counsel, it is not clear what goals the Naxalites espouse. They seem to have no visionary aim, and no theory to subserve even the platitudes that are mouthed. Their slogans may deceive, but their practices are indistinguishable from those of plain criminals who chose the path of terrorism. Like the Taliban, the Naxalites have become destroyers of any signs of development intended for the poor, such as roads, schools, medical facilities. Naxalites prosper only when every vestige of development is effaced. It is not just the state that needs to move with energy against them, but the political system as a whole.

Advani No in next LS election, says Venkaiah

Ending speculation, the former BJP president, Mr M. Venkaiah Naidu, on Friday declared that the party will not contest the next Lok Sabha elections under the leadership of Mr L.K. Advani and agreed that it would be logical for the party to get a new leadership at that juncture.
“Mr Advani is not going to contest the next elections. We are not going to fight the next elections under his leadership. Next general elections are going to happen when you know (2014),” said Mr Naidu in an interview to a private news channel.
Agreeing that it sounded logical that in such a scenario the BJP would need a new leader, Mr Naidu said for this the change of guard would have to take place couple of years before the polls.

Rahul: Maha polls fight of 2 ideologies

Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that the Maharashtra state Assembly elections is the fight between two ideologies. He said that while the Congress’ ideology revolves around the aam admi (common man), the Opposition’s ideology is about select people.
The Congress leader addressed his first campaign rally for the ensuing state Assembly elections at Panvel in the Raigad district. Speaking at the rally, Mr Gandhi said, “In this election there are two ideologies. One is the Congress’, which is the poor people’s ideology, while the Opposition’s ideology is India Shining. But it is the ideology of some select people.”
Mr Gandhi urged the people of Maharashtra to vote for his party in the October 13 Assembly elections for better governance. Though the campaign rally was for the state elections, Mr Gandhi only spoke about the governance of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s government in the Centre and the programmes undertaken by the Central government. Surprisingly he did not mention any of the work done by the Congress-NCP government.

First swine flu vaccines out in the US

wine flu vaccines are out in the US - in two cities initially, and across the country in coming months.

The first 5,000 doses at a hospital each in Memphis and Indianapolis were administered to health care workers and first responders.

Officials acknowledge that it will be months before there are enough doses to cover significant segments of the population - distribution is difficult for many reasons. "Is it fast enough? No. But it's what's feasible and it's what can be done," says Dr Jay Butler.

Also, there aren't enough trained people to deliver the vaccines. "The workforce in both health care and public health is extremely stretched. We have let go many workers in both areas," explains Dr Michael Osterholm of the University of Minnesota

But while many people who want the vaccine will not get it for months, surveys reveal there are several others who are suspicious of the vaccine and do not want it. Medical authorities say the fears are unwarranted.

Meanwhile, the latest figures show that about a thousand people are hospitalised in the US every week for swine flu.

How Floods

What caused the floods?

After a severe drought, what led to the massive scale of floods in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh? Blame it on the rain, you could say. Irrigation officials say this is probably the maximum possible flood in 10,000 years. But could it have been better managed? NDTV tracks the causes for the floods.

Unprecedented rains in North Karnataka on Thursday flooded several districts, cutting off areas like Bijapur, Bagalkot and Bellary. Karwar for instance got 50 cm of rain in a single day. Locals called it the heaviest downpour in 50 years.

The waters inundated the Krishna and Tungabhadra rivers and the Karnataka government released upto 8 lakh cusecs of water from the Almatti and Narayanpur dams, in a single day.

From the last week of September, Andhra Pradesh was experiencing heavy rains, some areas got over 30 cm in a single day. This brought heavy inflows into major projects in Krishna Basin like Jurala, Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar, Prakasam Barrage and Sunkesula.

Early on Friday, reports started coming in of water levels rising dangerously in the border town of Mantralayam in Andhra Pradesh.

By evening, the water level had crossed the danger mark in Srisailam dam. In a single day on Friday, the reservoir had received over 25 lakh cusecs of water in 12 hours, whereas it is designed to get no more than 13.6 lakh cusecs. This is the probable maximum flood predicted once in 10,000 years.

On Saturday, the maximum water limit was crossed in Srisailam, Jurala and Sunkesula projects causing inundation in many villages in the backwaters. Kurnool town and several villages in Kurnool, Mahbubnagar and Nalgonda districts were flooded.

From the Srisailam dam, the waters were flowing into Nagarjunasagar dam. On Sunday morning, 10.85 lakh cusecs were released to keep the masonry dam safe.

The waters that reached Prakasam Barrage in the coastal Krishna district on Monday have submerged hundreds of villages. Prakasam Barrage has never received such huge amounts of water in the last 100 years.

Critics point out that the Andhra Pradesh government could have better anticipated and prepared for systematic release of waters from the Sukeshu, Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar dams before matters got really out of hand.

The Andhra Pradesh government, however, points out that it is the first time in history that the scale of floods has been so massive.

"This is known as PMF or possible maximum flood, which happens once in 10,000 years,'' says Geetha Reddy, the state's information minister.

Meanwhile, the Met Dept has said there is likely to be a letup in rains. Karnataka says it will release minimum waters. So the waters in the major dams may be safely regulated.

Even today parts of delata region near Andhra, TN & Karnataka dont have much water. Where as there were canals which connected these region. All three State governments including central government never paid attention to maintain these canals and create new water bodies or canals so that other parts of state also can benefit. All three State CMs are having one common character that they will not adhere to Supreme Court orders. Then how can they expect common man to adhere IPC.

Its nothing but failure of AP & Karnataka governments with zero coordination. If Karnataka had warned or Andhra got this through CWC or other body and released SriSailam water ahead of Karnataka water reaching SriSailam, they would have reduced the impact. And issue about Kurnool is just after effects of YSRs decisions to increase SriSailam capacity. As a government, it's not their duty to say this is due to God. This is purely human failure.
